Here are some unsolicited emails from participants in the February 2009 Chapel Hill workshop. Don: You, Scott and your volunteer assistants did a spectacular job with the Flash workshop Friday and Saturday at UNC. In the three years since we sold our weekly newspapers, I've spent more time with boats, power tools and paintbrushes (the 4-inch variety) than with the tools of journalism. From the workshop, I had hoped to get a firm grip on the power of Flash and its potential for my next venture. I drove home with much more: Skills that allow me to start producing basic multimedia work immediately. Yes, I must invest months to build on that foundation before it erodes. No, I don't have a plan or a timetrack. But, you folks helped me take those first couple of critical steps along the path. Very impressive -- a testament to the workshop's design, quality of instruction/leadership and great temperament of all who helped us learn. And, it took place in a spectacular setting. Thanks again to you, Scott, SND and all who played a role. I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to participate in the Flash workshop. I learned a ton, and I'll definitely be able to use that knowledge to produce some cool multimedia for my trip this summer! Thanks again! -Sarah Great class! I'm already thinking up projects to do... I need to see which version of Flash we have at the office. Also, I really admire your energy when you teach - very inspiring. -Teresa The class was awesome and, I learned a lot. Valuable stuff as our newsroom merges with online. See you next time. -Tan |

Hi Don: I wanted to thank you for the valuable time you spent with us (me!) on the Flash course. It will be a turning point in my career. I also wanted to share my first little project with you. I had designed a logo for the Anglican Church of Canada’s triennial meeting in 2010, which received a lukewarm reception. After the Flash course, I animated it, using what I learned in the class. They were thrilled, and the logo was accepted. Now I’ll see if I can put Flash to use on our newspaper’s website. Thanks again!
