About Don Wittekind

Don WittekindDon Wittekind is an assistant professor in the visual communication sequence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before making the move to teaching, he spent 10 years as informational graphics director at the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, where he led the creation of the first newspaper-based multimedia graphics department. Under his direction, the Sun-Sentinel created its first interactive project in December of 1996 and continued as an industry leader throughout his tenure. Wittekind’s work has been honored with top awards from the Newspaper Association of America, Editor & Publisher, the Online News Association and the SND.ies (Best of Multimedia Design). Wittekind also teaches SND’s popular New Media Quickcourse, which he founded in 2001, and is a frequent speaker and teacher on multimedia issues in the U.S. and throughout Europe.

In addition to teaching, Don is also the CEO of Swarm Interactive, a multimedia production studio he co-founded in 1998. Swarm specializes in medical web development, and is the developer of the ViewMedica Patient Education System, a web based animation library that features more than 400 Flash interactive modules. Swarm also provides custom animation services for a variety of companies, including National Geographic, Discovery.com, and many medical manufacturers.
